ANNA G
Minneapolis, MN – Photographer
When someone asks Anna what her favorite kind of music is, she’s always had the same answer, even as a kid: “Anything you can dance to.” Whether it was the latest pop or hip-hop song from the radio, a classic disco CD she had hunted down at her mall’s music store, or her Dance Team’s competition song from that year, Anna has always searched for songs with a beat you can move to. Born in March 1984 in Rochester, Minnesota, Anna grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis. From a young age she displayed a passion for music through training in piano, clarinet, choir, theater, and dance. “I can’t imagine music not being a huge part of my life in one way or another.”Around 1998 she was introduced to electronic music with albums like Paul Oakenfold’s “Tranceport” and Daft Punk’s “Homework.” Anna contributes her discovery of electronic music to her brother, a bedroom DJ who was able to share trance and house music with her before she tracked it down on her own, as well as her father, who had played Tangerine Dream music in the family room when Anna was younger.
In the fall of 2002 she moved to Northfield to attend St. Olaf College. Having experience in darkroom photography from High School, she didn’t waste too much time before enrolling in electives through the art department. Coming from a background of varied artistic and creative endeavors through childhood, mixed media is her preference; however, she tends to limit her art to photography, video, digital arts, and sculpture. She graduated from St. Olaf in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a Biomedical Studies minor and a major in Studio Art. During her time in college, Anna was fortunate enough to study abroad, traveling to London for a term in 2005 and to Manhattan the following year, giving her the opportunity to explore these cities’ fantastic music and nightlife scenes — after completing her required coursework, of course! Following graduation, she couldn’t wait to find out what Minneapolis had in store for electronic music events. She quickly discovered the many club and underground shows her hometown had to offer and began attending any and every one she had time to attend.
After quickly becoming an unfailing attendee of Sound in Motion shows, paired with her background in photography and a passion to promote the electronic music scene, in the summer of 2008 she joined Sound in Motion crew as the photographer. Look for Anna at an event and your photo may find its way onto the website!
