D-STRUCT
Minneapolis, MN – Techno, House, Mash-ups
Alex “DJ D-Struct” Newman grew up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin in a very musical family. Alex’s mother is an accomplished pianist and his father is a music professor at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. At age 4, Alex started to play the drums and by age 7 was playing the piano focusing on classical and jazz styles.
Alex had his first experience with electronic music at the age of 16 when he ventured to his home country, Germany and by chance ended up at the Love Parade. Within six months of returning from Germany, he had purchased his first set of turntables, and only three months later he was on stage at Evolutions Bar in Altoona, WI. Alex was spinning house and trance, mimicking the artists he had seen at the Love Parade. D-Struct quickly progressed in his skills of beat matching and was soon a highly requested DJ spinning electronic and top 40 music in Eau Claire.
In 2004 Alex graduated from high school and moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. He began going to Plush shows at Tabu. These shows were his first interaction with Sound in Motion.
D-Struct had created a large following on the U of M campus for his top 40 mixing by 2006. He also started to mix on TransmissionFm.com, spinning house and trance. Late in the year he started to play shows across Minnesota and Wisconsin.
In January of 2008, Alex joined Sound in Motion as an intern. By May, he was asked to be a permanent crew member and played his first official show while opening for Benny Benassi. Alex has since opened for Ferry Corsten, Fedde Le Grand, MSTRKFT, Carl Cox and many others. He was also named the #3 Crossover DJ in Minneapolis by Twincitiesnightclub.com.
Watch for D-Struct as he continues to push his musical talents in DJing as well as new endeavors in production work.
